Resilienz-Lotse (SMA)® / Internal Resilience Coach

Resilience refers to the ability to withstand stress or, even better, the adaptability in dealing with stressful situations. One of the central tasks that individuals and organizations will increasingly need to focus on in the future is promoting the learning, strengthening, understanding, and practical application of resilience. This is necessary to respond more effectively to the challenges of accelerated changes, increased workloads, and ongoing digitization. Factors such as well-being, health promotion, and maintaining health play a crucial role in choosing a workplace. One approach to promote these aspects within organizations is to establish resilience, represented in the organization by Internal Resilience Coaches (Trademark: Resilienz-Lotse (SMA)®).

According to Sebastian Mauritz; Resilienz Akademie Göttingen

Why is resilience important in companies, teams, and organizations?

Stress is one of the most common terms in the professional world, and it continues to increase as the pressure and pace of the working environment rise. This presents an ongoing challenge for our own resilience. Stress can be viewed in two ways. Passive stress relates to factors such as poor ergonomics and an unfavorable posture, which hinder us from realizing our full potential. Additionally, environmental factors such as lighting, room climate (air circulation, air quality, temperature), and noise can either be beneficial or detrimental. Active stress, on the other hand, concerns our communication and how we deal with both ourselves and other people. Additionally, regeneration (mentally and physically) and various coping strategies play a role in managing stress. So, why is resilience important? Because it describes the ability to handle stressful situations better, healthier, and with greater well-being. This enables companies, teams, and organizations to remain productive and operate optimally.

Why are Internal Resilience Coaches important in companies?

The importance of resilience as a competence becomes particularly evident when companies are undergoing change processes. However, even without explicit change processes, stress, changes, and challenges often occur in the normal daily work routine. An Internal Resilience Coach plays a crucial role in this context by maintaining the reminder of resilience as a competence within the company. This means that the aim is to continuously remind the organization about flexibility, health, and effective stress management.

But what exactly does it mean to have an Internal Resilience Coach as a reminder aid?

With a navigator, you have someone on-site within the organization who, through their specific role, can contribute to keeping the importance of resilience alive. It is important to ensure that there is at least one Internal Resilience Coach for every 10-50 employees. This way, the teams they support can maintain their resilience, and the resource of the navigators is optimally available.

The role of an Internal Resilience Coach

Primarily, an Internal Resilience Coach is solution-oriented and focuses on the following aspects:

Comprehensibility (why am I doing something and how does it lead to stress),
Feasibility (what can I do and how exactly can I do it), and
Meaningfulness (what does my actions lead to and what is resilience good for).

In this context, it is of great importance to conduct both an analysis of the current individual situation ("Status Quo") and a comprehensive and systemic examination of stress. It is just as important to identify the factors that lead to stress as it is to find ways to promote regeneration, well-being, and relaxation. In this process, the Resilience Toolbox proves to be extremely helpful, continuously updated and optimized.

Benefits of Internal Resilience Coaches

On one hand, there exists an easily accessible opportunity to exchange ideas about stress, resilience, and burnout. Due to their position as part of the company, organization, or team, there is a natural closeness to the Internal Resilience Coach. Another advantage arises from the clear distinction of the Navigator's role, as this additional resource is available as needed. Ideally, the possibility of linking this role with other positions exists to further professionalize and support individuals who perform social and integrative functions within companies (e.g., in HR, occupational health and safety professionals, corporate health management, internal trainers, executives, team leaders, etc.).

What is the benefit of having Internal Resilience Coaches in the company?

Resilience is a critical competency for the future. It empowers individuals to better navigate everyday changes on an individual level and global changes in the corporate world. The integration of resilience into companies, organizations, and systems is not only a preventive measure but also an expression of appreciation for employees and a potential avenue for promoting health. In this way, the organization can be strengthened from within, both at the team and company levels.

When we talk about Internal Resilience Coaches, we are referring to all individuals within the company, organization, or system who are dedicated to enhancing resilience. In this context, resilience encompasses the promotion of all aspects, factors, competencies, and skills that contribute to improving stress management and enhancing well-being.
